New YogaKids classes can be designed for groups, individuals, special functions and Girl School troops.
Each class includes movements and activities that support the following goals:
- Promoting Fitness and Flexibility
- Increasing Focus and Attention
- Relaxation and Visualization Skills
- Improving Social Skills and Self Esteem
Combining Yoga with Multiple Intelligence teaching , I usually include the following elements in every class:
Connecting Circle
We practice breathing techniques and some type of sharing game that includes an opportunity for each child to lead the conversation, share ideas and often lead the class in a pose.
Yoga Poses
Promote strength, balance, focus and concentration.
Group Games
I utilize a variety of games to promote interactivity, social skills, creativity and physical movement.
Art
I often incorporate artwork into classes. It has the physical benefits of stimulating hand / eye coordination, improving peripheral vision, stimulating both sides of the brain and in creasing focus and attention. In addition, it often allows me an opportunity to learn more about your children, what they like and where they are developmentally in terms of language and fine motor skills.
Visualization and Relaxation
Combining visualization with relaxation techniques is a wonderful method of helping children relax, relieve anxiety and develop concentration.
Themes
I often elicit ideas for classes from the kids. According to research, learning can only take place when there is attention, interest and relevance. By incorporating ideas from my students, they are immediately engaged in a fun and creative way every class. Besides, I could never come up with such creative ideas on my own! Some past class themes this year have included “Groundhog Pirates”, “Travel Into a Computer”, “Bugs, Birds and Elephants”, “Fire Ants”, “The Brain” and “Doctor Who”.
